Sepia Saturday - Two Little Children

This weeks Sepia Saturday picture shows two little children which immediately brings to mind my favourite photo of my maternal grandmother, Daisy Marion MORGAN and her sister Clarice May MORGAN.
Clarice was born in September 1905 and Daisy in August 1908 both at Moyhu, Victoria.
I think this gorgeous photo may have been taken in about 1910 or 11.

Nana and Aunty Tod2

Their great grandmother, Isabella nee BEATON  did survive a shipwreck when she came to Australia in 1841 on board the ill-fated ship the "India".

  3. A lot of work went into making those girls look so perfect for the camera, which could acount for the rather unhappy look on their faces. However, the resultivs well worth it and I too admire the beautiful clothes.

  4. Love the bare feet on the younger child -- wonder what that was all about...

  5. The children are lovely and an excellent match age wise for the prompt.

  6. Lovely dresses. The lace on the hems really stands out against the dark background. I don't think I would have been happy to wear anything that fancy.

  8. I have a photo of my 2 grandaunts in dresses similar to those. Love the braid in Clarice's hair - seems rather modern.

  9. Beautiful children dressed up in lace and embroidery. All in white; at a time when there was no washing machine, barely electricity. Your great grand mother was lucky to survive; it must have been a trauma for her at the time.

  10. An absolutely charming portrait of the two sisters. Daisy clearly survived, and I hope Clarice did too.

  11. It is a beautiful photograph and although the two girls are really trying hard to hold their set pose - still their personalities shine through.

  12. I love Daisy's little bare feet - especially with that fancy dress. Usually with such a formal portrait, a baby's feet would be shod. Like Deb, I wonder how the bare feet happened? Clarice looks so delicate in her lovely dress, & I, too, like the braid in her hair.

  13. Just beautiful. Do the young ones these day still get beautifully posed studio photos of their children or is it just snap, snap, snap with the digital camera. There's something very special about these best clothes, such an important occasion, I am having my photo taken today keepsakes.

  14. A lovely photo, but I wonder what was the occasion? Could the bare feet and white dresses be for a Christening of the youngest?
